We are hiring!
We are looking for a PhD student with an interest in machine learning.
Our mission
We are a young research group working on robust and data-efficient machine learning models. To this end, we work on the integration of knowledge-based and data-driven machine learning, on deep learning for tabular data, and on machine learning for heterogeneous and multi-modal data. In addition, we are applying these methods to solve challenging real-world data science problems, e.g. in marine ecology or underwater technology.
In our research group, we are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive academic research community that welcomes and supports individuals from all backgrounds. We believe that a diverse group of researchers fosters creativity, innovation, and excellence in our research. Therefore, we seek to attract talented researchers from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to race, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, religion, and disability.
What you will be doing
Research in deep learning methods for the analysis of time series, e.g. Time Series Embeddings
Application of such state-of-the-art deep learning methods to a challenging real-world problem: Optimal control of pumps
Interdisciplinary collaborations with leading national and international researchers
Publishing scientific papers in high-impact conferences and journals
Requirements
Curiosity and high motivation to learn
Strong intrinsic motivation to develop machine learning methods and apply them to solve challenging real-world problems
Affinity to coding and good knowledge of at least one programming language used in data science, like Python or R
First practical experience with machine learning methods, e.g. in the form of a master thesis or a track record of machine learning projects (e.g. on GitHub)
Ability to work in a team and to communicate in an interdisciplinary environment
Completed university degree (state exam, diploma, master's degree or comparable degree) in data science, computer science, mathematics, physics or comparable
